Yeah once you lose your "innocence" or naivety about this religion, you cannot support it or stomach it.

Last act as an elder
by silas hobbs ini was just reminiscing about the last thing i did as an elder.
after a painful awakening due to family matters,,deleted as an elder due to what i now have come to realize is normal children trying to be more than just zombie tag alongs who don't make problems for their parents and want to explore their talents and intellect.
mistakes and difficulties arise in families but real families do not resort to draconian measures when hormonally influenced children want to take a different path.

Born atheist, my best friend is a JW.
by Maxsara inas stated in the title, i have been raised an atheist, and while i have a relatively open mind, i do not currently believe in a god.
my best friend, who i met six years ago, is a jehovah's witness.
i believe the reason he has been allowed to be friends with me is because he didn't have many at the time we met, and his parents wanted him to be more social, but we've kept in contact ever since.. over the last year or so, i've done some research into the organisation he is part of, and i have been lead to believe that it is generally quite hypocritical and has many cultish (using hassan's definition) tendencies.

It's always different for people what will get them thinking. Certainly posing questions that require research is a good route to go. Have you found JW facts? They have a lot of info on this religion that might be helpful.
I haven't had much success with the jw's at work. Although I've tried to at least make their lives a little better by getting them hooked on Craigslist goodies and garage sales. That doesn't seem like much, but garage sales to a JW is a gamble cause they might get a demon infested item. That goes for Craigslist too. So I'm just trying to get them to enjoy life and hopefully, they spend more time enjoying than thinking about the religion.

I would say that the WT religion is partially responsible for the split personality/life going on. My mother would make us go to meetings, out in service and assemblies. But as soon as we got home from all of this, it was as if it didn't exist. Unless of course my mom and dad got into a fight. Then it became that she was a righteous person and he wasn't.
My dad was a "worldly" person and never became a witness. I don't remember my mother ever really discussing bible things or using Jesus or god as an example for us. She left that up to the meetings to do. So she believed that the meetings and literature would educate us and she didn't have to. I don't think the religion ever made her a better person because she still is as she was..

Universal Sovereignty
by incognito2014 ini always thought this was nonsense, just an excuse for why there’s suffering.. but just assuming there really is this very long period of human history to allow god to prove his sovereignty.
this issue that affects every being not just on the planet but in the universe .
it’s a big deal and one that is so important that billions of people have had to suffer for 6,000 years.. .

How funny. This was what I was talking about with my sister this afternoon. What really in in the bible that says God has to wait for mankind to try every different government before he brings Armageddon? I brought up this subject to her because of a program I watched on forensic archaeology. A woman was found buried on her side, a baby by her shoulder, one between her legs and one by her feet. The wrap up of the show was that the woman had been carrying triplets at around age 30. It is very common that one of the babies will be in the breach position as it tries to exit the body which effectively blocks it from being born. The woman had given birth to one child, (the one by her shoulder) but was unable to birth the other two because of a breached baby. So she died, the baby that was delivered died (because there wasn't milk for it). The other two were expelled from the body after she was buried because of the decomposing process that produces a lot of gas. So they were found between her legs.
It's just a small sample of the suffering that all people have gone thru since "God" expelled mankind from the garden. What kind of person feels justified in putting, not the offenders, but their offspring, thru this torture? Witnesses don't think of things that way - I didn't - they are just taught to make excuses for God.
Universal Sovereignty - just another way the marketing department, spins an excuse for "God" doing nothing.

It is a difficult task indeed to leave and for some it is harder depending on your personality and family circumstances.
A therapist, even if they don't have the answers are at least a listening ear. She doesn't have to worry about them running to the elders or other family members. Sometimes a change of place helps. A vacation with a friendly non witness family member or maybe a road trip with you. Something outside the bubble of the small world of the JW lifestyle. Everyone needs a break.
And there are many different types of people here with backgrounds in the JW world that has left scars and loss of family. So of course they speak from a certain perspective. You don't have to take their advice or take things personally. I myself struggle with those kind of issues. But this place has many positive things to find in the people and their experiences.

Why wouldn't they take the opportunity to return to a house with only underage children in it? If the child seems easily impressed, they might just keep in contact with them, building a relationship.
Opportunists are everywhere.

Is JW.Org the true religion?
by Maria Nieves injw.org states that they are the true religion.
i was told that it is written in the bible that jw.org is the true religion.
the following is the "alleged" evidence that was presented to me:.

Their actions show that they cannot be the "true" religion. They allow pedophiles to remain in the congregations without anyone knowing but them. Which means the parents can't protect their children. They don't call the police to investigate when a child is abused. There are many other things that prove they aren't what they claim to be.
Anyone can pick a name out of a scripture and say it is them.

March broadcast - Tightpants Tony wants to be filmed in action
by sir82 indid anyone else notice this?.
tony tightpants has the "morning worship" featurette in the march jw broadcast.. he appears to be hoping that someone will be videotaping the slaughter of 7 billion men, women, and children at armageddon.. quote is something like "we have some really good videographers here at bethel, but i don't think even they could capture what will happen.
still, all things are possible with god..." (not exact, but that is the gist).. and of course morris imagines himself as one of the "anointed", who will be the ones, per wt doctrine, to conduct the slaughter.. it takes a special kind of hubris, arrogance, and sadism to wish that you yourself could be filmed in the act of slaughtering billions of people.. i've encountered a lot of jws with "dark souls", but based on his public comments, i'd say morris has teh blackest one i've seen.. if he says stuff like this for broadcast to 8 million + jws, what does he say in private?

You know, someone should give him his wish. Show women, children and babies being "gloriously" killed. The reality of what would actually happen. Children on their way to school, killed. A woman with a baby, just after bathing it. Two nice old people sharing a cup of tea. People standing in line at the supermarket. At a hospital. Witnesses just as they leave their house and wave at their neighbor, see the angels slaughter them.
I'm sure most witnesses don't contemplate what it really entails. It would be shocking.

This certainly worked on me! I was a humble doormat that doubted anything I did was good. I remember an "example" given from the podium - an elder who, when he thought he was better than others, would say to himself "you're nothing more than a speck of dust" And that is what they want you to dwell on.
Yes, instill a feeling of inferiority to your children so they can be manipulated every time they go to the hall.
